Priesthood

Lector Priest

Scrolls were read out loud by the "kher heb", the lector priest from a papyrus book. He has to recite them exactly as they are written, and if they made a mistake it could affend the god. This was done at ceremonies and at the head of the processions. The kher-heb could be any well-educated godservant and often the high priest could act as 'lector priest' during several different ceremonies in the temples.

High Priest

The High Priest's job was to take care of the god and the god´s needs. So basically he acted like a servant to the gods. By treating the god as a very important citizen of Egypt, it was made sure that the god would live on and care for the people of Egypt.
